Some ‘Q’s and ‘A’s

Who can keep their ADF Super account?

If you’re currently a member of ADF Super, and you’ve been in service* for more than 12 consecutive months, you can keep your account when you’re transitioning out

* Serving as a member of the Permanent Forces or a continuous full-time reservist (within the meaning of the Australian Defence Force Superannuation Act 2015).

What do I have to do to keep contributing to my ADF Super account?

I left the ADF before 6 July 2020, can I come back to ADF Super?

At the time you transitioned from the Australian Defence Force, legislation applied saying you can only be in ADF Super if you’re serving in the ADF. We didn’t believe this was the right option for you, so this legislation has changed. Veterans can now continue to contribute to ADF Super if they are currently a member of ADF Super, and have been in service* for more than 12 consecutive months.

* Serving as a member of the Permanent Forces or a continuous full-time reservist (within the meaning of the Australian Defence Force Superannuation Act 2015).

I’m still in the ADF, but I also have another job. Can the ADF and my non-ADF employer contribute to my ADF Super account at the same time?

Unfortunately, no. You can only have contributions from the ADF OR non-ADF employers coming into your ADF Super account. Which means, we can’t accept contributions from your non-ADF employer while you’re in the ADF.

Insurance after you leave the ADF

lifePLUS Protect—when you’re out

Now that your no longer serving, it’s our turn to protect you.

Once you transition out of the ADF, your ADF Cover will stop. This is because ADF Cover is designed specifically for serving members of the ADF, and so the death and invalidity benefits are tailored specifically for those in service.

The good news is, we’ve designed an optional insurance product especially for ex-serving personnel (TPD and death cover, and income protection). If you’re eligible, you’ll be given automatic Death and Total Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance, as soon as you get out.

Already left the ADF?

Veterans can now continue to contribute to ADF Super if they have at least 12 months continuous service. You’ll be eligible to apply for our new lifePLUS Protect cover at any time if you stay with ADF Super.
