Celebrating 100 years: Lauren's Story

Rewind the clock to 2005, and a young and keen Lauren Kelly was just embarking on her career at ComSuper in the Contact Centre. Encouraged to apply by her mother, who was a ComSuper employee at the time, she has fond memories of her early days in the organisation.

“I was like, ‘who cares about super, what is super?’ But I chucked my name on the temp register, got a three-month contract as an APS2 in the Contact Centre, and I just loved it from the first day,” she recalls.

“I was taking pension calls and it was so much fun. They were just these little sweeties who wanted to have a chat and ask, ‘how is the weather down in cold Canberra?’”

Seventeen years, several longstanding friendships, many fruitful development opportunities and a couple of babies later, Lauren’s passion for the business is still burning brightly. Her career has so far traversed the Contact Centre, Benefits, and the Product team, and encompassed a handful of leadership roles. Along the way she has completed a Diploma in Superannuation, undertaken ‘all sorts’ of management training, and participated in multiple on-the-job upskilling opportunities.

“With the job I am in now, I get to go to different insurance conferences which talk about industry standards and how we could be doing things better,” she says.

“There is just so much guidance and support.”

In her current role as an Insurance Specialist, Lauren is grateful for the close-knit nature of her small, supportive team, as well as the flexibility of CSC as a whole. Over her 17-year career she has been impacted by numerous colleagues, and credits many of them for helping to shape her into the person she is today.

“I do think about the times where people have helped and supported me along the way.

“I have been really lucky to have some amazing mentors in my life, who have plucked me out of different situations and provided me with so much guidance, support and helped me to grow and thrive.

“I think there are some really good people here, who just put you on the right track. I can think of some wonderful people who have helped me in my career, and who do make it a really great place to work.”
